Be logged in before the window
IRCTC logs you out after inactivity. Sign in a few minutes early and keep the tab alive — a fresh login at 09:59 is how people lose the window.
- 1. Open irctc.co.in and sign in by 09:50 IST (AC) or 10:50 (non-AC).
- 2. Confirm passengers are already in My Account → My Profile → Master List — see the Passengers step for exact values.
- 3. Top up IRCTC eWallet or pre-authorise a UPI mandate. This is the single biggest time saver.
- 4. Keep this page open — the clock above is server-synced, unlike your device clock.
Search — the IRCTC search panel
Select train
On IRCTC this is where you pick the train row, tap the class, and hit Book Now. Knowing your train number ahead means you scan for one row instead of reading the whole list.
Passenger details 0
Max 4 for this quota. Names exactly as on the ID you will carry.
Put these in your IRCTC Master List
Saved server-side at My Account → My Profile → Master List, these become checkboxes on booking day instead of fields to retype.

Payment
More Tatkal attempts die here than on the form. The bank redirect is slow and can drop the seat hold — pre-funded options skip it entirely.
- • eWallet balance must cover fare + Tatkal premium — top up the day before.
- • Keep your UPI app open and unlocked, phone unlocked, OTP device to hand.
- • Do not refresh or hit back during payment; the seat hold is short but real.
